Looking for a unique setting for a party or fundraiser? If you have a group of fifty or less, we would love to help you plan your event at Kiler Grove Winery. In addition to the Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue event, we’re also happy to welcome the Stanford Alumni Club of Utah on March 30, and on April 7th, Certified Wine Educator Sheral Schowe is holding her Foundation Wine class, part of the SLCC Culinary Program, here at the winery. We’ve also staged fundraisers for KUER and Crossroads Urban Center, client appreciation events for Ameriprise, as well as several birthday parties and a membership meeting for Millcreek Rotary Club.

If you need help arranging catering services for your event, we’ve worked with Zy and Pago restaurants, and we can also recommend the following:

Andi’s Magic Apron at 801-964-4814

Carl Rubadue at 801-230-9180

Culinary Crafts at 801-355-6575

Martin’s Fine Desserts at 801-244-0823

Cuisine Unlimited at 801-268-2332

We were biting our nails as we went later and later into the year fearing there might come a rain and destroy our crop. Fortunately we were able to bring in all the varietals but one without threat of rain.
The Mourvedre however was still on the vine and looking just a tad under ripe, and here came the weather we feared. Rain. So we had the choice to grab it or lose it. We grabbed it.

The season started off cold and rainy which delayed flowering. Then the summer was cooler than usual which delayed veraision. Then the late summer was cool and rainy which delayed ripening. Finally the grapes are getting ripe. Even though we are about two weeks later than our latest harvest yet we are set to pick the Petite Sirah next week. And you thought it wouldn’t ever happen!

We’ll be bringing about half the Petite crop to the winery while the other half will be processed in Paso Robles at our co-op. The constrictions of cellar space and transportation logistics won’t accommodate the full load we’ll harvest. Even so, we’ll have about 3 tons of Petite to crush and put in the fermenters. Any of our friends who want to have a peek at this part of the process are welcome to come by and take a look. It will be pretty hectic, pretty noisy, and pretty gooey, but it will be exciting.

If you miss the Petite adventure, no worries. We’ll be doing the Trebbiano a couple weeks further out. We’ll let you know more about that as we get closer to the pick date.

Kiler Grove winemaker Michael Knight, a northern California native from St. Helena (just outside of Sonoma), has spent the last ten years working to develop his vineyard (a small estate in Paso Robles) and grapes, dealing with the DABC (oddly enough, most of his problems came from California laws, SLC was a bit easier to navigate) restrictions and perfecting his blends.

“Knight was raised in California’s wine country but more recently was the winemaker for La Caille. You might recall that, up until a few years ago, La Caille had its own small winery and vineyards. Knight was in charge of the operation. Then, about 10 years ago, Knight and business associate David Olson established the Kiler Grove vineyards—10 acres on the west side of the Paso Robles appellation, in California. So how did Kiler Grove Winegrowers wind up in Utah? Facing a snail-paced California bureaucracy and armed with a winery permit that didn’t permit tastings, Knight and Olsen decided to set up shop in Utah, where they found the climate more business-friendly…”
